We are certified class A!

Already in 2016 our hotel was certified with the highest climate efficiency class "A". 
This label was awarded by the independet certification company Viabono. 
It confirms that the hotels' management as well as the employees engage in a consequent sustainable dealing with environmental ressources. In summer 2024 our environmental carbon dioxide footprint was calculated afresh. In particular, our switchower to green energy helped to reduce our carbon dioxide emission. And we're proud of it!

Sustainability must be lived

and is a community project. The entire hotel team participates in this process and actively advocates for more sustainability in the hotel. Whether it's reducing paper consumption or prioritizing regional sourcing in our purchases. We all know - even small changes can make a big difference! Here are some measures we have implemented:

• Use of fresh and local products, such as bread and rolls from the Laquai bakery, cold cuts from Metzgerei Kempenich, honey from the Wispertal, homemade jams, and dips.
• 30% of the total offering consists of regional products (eggs, honey, cold cuts, bread).
• 50% of the total offering consists of vegetarian/vegan dishes.
• 5% of the total offering consists of organic products.
• Elimination of disposable products and single-portion packaging.
• Rental linens from GREIF are climate-neutral through the compensation of emissions via a compensation project.
• Use of recycled paper
• Use of cleaning agents with ECO label (biodegradable).
• Use of green electricity.
• Ongoing conversion to LED lighting.
• Reduction of outdoor lighting (hotel and garden area).
• Modern technical equipment such as heat pumps.
• Motion sensors for lighting control.
• Automatic climate regulation in guest rooms; when windows are opened, the air conditioning in the respective room automatically switches off.

On the way to complete carbon dioxide neutrality - a net-zero carbon dioxide footprint

As part of our collaboration with VIABONO, we offer you, dear guests, the opportunity to make your stay with us climate-friendly. This will cost you no more than €0.45 per night per person, and the entire amount goes into this project. Thus, you can actively contribute to making our hotel a fully climate-friendly accommodation facility.

How does a climate-friendly stay work?
Through the support of certified reforestation and wetland restoration projects, CO2 emissions can be partially or completely offset. We need the help of our guests to support this, with their contribution of €0.45 per night. The more people participate, the more tons of CO2 can be compensated. These reforestation projects are subject to strict guidelines and are certified to the highest international standards.

Balance 2023:
Thanks to approximately 9200 climate-neutral overnight stays by our guests, around 46 tons of CO2 were compensated.

Our climate protection project: Sodo/Humbo – Community-managed reforestation

Together with World Vision (NGO), local communities developed their reforestation project for the Sodo and Humbo regions (approximately 300 km south of the capital Addis Ababa). At the heart of the project is the active participation and self-determination of the local population. Thus, the communities surrounding Mount Damota are responsible for the project and its immediate implementation themselves.

The aim of the project is to protect the severely damaged forest on the mountainsides from further degradation. By employing farmer-led natural regeneration methods, the project makes the land more habitable for wildlife by providing food and shelter and improving connectivity to other forested areas.
